dBASE/xBase table specifications

From the early years of the dBASE existence there has been a number of competing applications using basically the same .dbf table format as the original dBASE application.

Though the dBASE and dBASE names still being proprietary concerning the software, the cloned applications collectively called xBase's have a number of commercial and free implementations - all using the same royalty free data table format, some of the implementations however offering some table format extensions not fully interchangeable between the various software packages.

As FoxBASE / FoxPro / Visual FoxPro is among these xBase applications specifications of the .dbf format also largely describes the FoxPro format supported by the BDE.
