The Borland Database Engine locking environment is a hierarchy consisting of three layers:

Session layer
(Owns database handles, table cursors,
acquired table locks, and record locks)


Database handle layer
(Open mode limits the open mode of tables in the database)


Table cursor layer
(Cursor open mode can limit access)
