Database selection is done via the [Database] menu.
You may select the current database in either of three ways
(- the database actually being the initial directory when calling the [Table]\[Open Table] menu).
Any time you select a table from some other location, that directory instantly will be the current database directory.
The traditional way of selecting a database via BDE, whatever a Paradox or dBASE database, is by selecting among the database names (Alias names) defined i the BDE configuration via the BDE Administrator. These databases also define the driver setting for the selected database.
Choosing to select an Alias defined database a drop down list will display from which to select among the BDE defined databases.
Via the BDE Administrator you may define a number of Alias databases located at various directories.
By default the PdxEditor defines the directory of the application itself as the Home Directory Database.
Via the [Database] menu the Home Directory Database can be redefined as any other directory selected from the, at the time of selection, current database directory selecting the menu [Set Current Directory as Home Directory] or [Set Application Directory as Home Directory].
If you have been far around browsing directories, the Set Application Directory as Home Directory may be convenient.
If you have selected any table outside the directory of the selected database by BDE Alias or outside the Home Directory Database, that directory instantly will be the current database directory dynamically stored as the Alternate Directory.
If you switch back and forth between selecting tables from the Home Directory Database and tables from some other location, you easily can switch from the Home Directory Database to the dynamically defined other or Alternate Directory via the [Use Alternate Directory Database] menu.
If no tables have been selected in the current application session yet, you may still select some directory as the initial Alternate Directory Database by the database directory selection dialog:
