As with Paradox tables, Primary Key indexes may be applied on existing data.
However, if data in an existing column violates the newly applied PRIMARY KEY index, the database engine gives no feed back on this violation, though entering successive data will raise an error message for the new data attempted to be added, but still accepting the existing key violating data.

Yet another reason not to depend on dBASE 7 tables without thoughtful caution.
